Welcome to the Gravesend SAM information pages.
Gravesend SAM events are for anyone aged from 10-16 (but if you’re a little younger that’s fine too) and accompanying adults. Every month an invited speaker will talk about some of the strange and/or interesting things they have discovered when studying or whilst at work. The event might be a talk, a demonstration, some hands-on activity or a mixture of these. Everyone in the age range is welcome and there’s no need to book, just turn up on the night.
Speakers ask only for their expenses so we ask for a suggested £2 donation towards this from everyone aged under 16 to cover this.
Where do the talks take place? No. 84, 84 Parrock Road, Gravesend, DA12 1QF
When? On the third Tuesday of every month – but please check the ‘Future Events’ link on the menu for any changes.
Time? Talks start at 6:30 pm
Doors open at 6:00 pm and drinks and cakes are on sale until 6:20.
Cost? A £2 donation is requested from anyone under the age of 16 towards the speaker’s expenses.
Who can come? Anyone aged roughly from 10-16, adults only if accompanying children.
There’s no need to book – just turn up on the day.
The forms returned in April suggested that some fun science would be popular so we’ll be organising that for later in the year.
Update: I’ve met a physicist and chemist who are preparing just such a show – more details at the next SAM (Tuesday June 19th 2018).
We may also be able to arrange for someone to come and show us how to do some simple magic tricks using a little knowledge of psychology and some manual dexterity.
